Title: New Best Answer Selection for Help Topics!
Post by: treminaor on December 10, 2013, 08:51:18 am
Best Answer Selection in Topic Replies

We have added a new feature to the forum which allows the author of a topic in the Help Section to choose a "Best Answer" to his question, if one exists.

This will mark the topic as [SOLVED] to make it easy for people to identify which Help Topics arrived at a solution to the problem. When a Best Answer is chosen, the author of the best answer will receive +2 respect, and the topic author will receive +1 respect for bothering to mark the topic as solved. If you change your mind about which topic answer is the Best Answer, you can undo your answer selection and choose a different message. The respect points will be transferred accordingly.

To mark a topic reply as the Best Answer, simply choose the "Best Answer button on the top right of the topic reply:

To unmark a topic reply as the Best Answer, simply choose the "Best Answer" button again:

Once an answer has been chosen in a topic, it will be marked as [SOLVED] and you will see this message below the first post of the topic:

The Best Answer will be displayed like this:

Please take advantage of this feature as it will help organize the Help Section a lot. Do not mark an answer as the Best Answer if it did not answer your question!

Really cool update that will make huge difference if people will use it.

A suggestion for this is that Topics that have been solved get moved to the bottom (or last page) so that topics that haven't been solved get some more spotlight.

I agree with the basis of the idea but I think then people that are actually looking for solutions in the help section won't find them. I think a separate sub section called "Solved Issues" would work fine as the issue you brought up of spotlight for people in need of help and the need of people looking for a solution would be solved.

I agree with the separate sub section thing. It would help a lot

Yeah i thought of that after i posted that, was too lazy to edit.  Adding a sub-section for solved issues would essentially kill two birds with one stone by removing topics that are solved so that unanswered ones get more spotlight & making it easier to find answers for issues that people might have the same type of issue.
